thrive portrait: jess

If you were to ask me to list the powerhouse women in my life, Jess Weiner might be at the very top of my list.  Jess, an author, speaker, strategist and enthusiastic feminist works tirelessly to change the conversation about women and girls in the media.  In fact, chances are that even if you don't know who she is, you know her work. For example, did you love the Dove Campaign for Real Beauty?  Jess had a hand in that, and has for over a decade. Like the new body types that Mattel recently announced for their Barbie dolls?  Jess was all up in that, too.  And that's the beginning.  Quietly, behind the scenes, Jess truly has been changing the world for women and girls, championing their self-esteem and self-confidence with some of the biggest organizations in the world -- and during the past couple of years, it's been an honour to work with her.

Needless to say, Jess has been at the top of my list to invite to be part of the Thrive Portrait Project, and I was thrilled when she agreed.  So a couple of months ago, while I was at the Mom 2.0 Summit, I had a chance to take her portrait, and ask her what she thought it means to "thrive."

Her answer, honestly, surprised me.  But I loved how honest she was and ... well, how happy she is.  And, as a staunch feminist myself, I confess that her experience mirrors my own, as well.

Take a look at what she said -- and don't miss all of the other portraits and wise words of these amazing women.

This project is so fun.
