a solo retreat

Yesterday, on a whim, Marcus and I decided to take a day trip to Round Top, Texas, a tiny village about 90 minutes outside of Houston. My friend Cheryl has a boutique there, so we dropped in to say hi and do a little shopping, and then walked around to the antique shops and other really charming businesses that were there, before driving home. I spent the evening playing in my journal. It was a great day.

It was also the first day of a week off — my first bit of time off where I have absolutely. nothing. to. do. I have no book edits to do, I have no meetings — nothing. And because my birthday is this week, I decided to do something a little special: I booked myself a little solo retreat for a couple of days. I’m taking nothing with me but a stack of books, my journaling supplies, and a swimsuit. Oh, and I’m bringing my camera.

I’m really looking forward to the down time, and I’m looking forward to sharing the images with you, which I will here on Chookooloonks. Because it’s going to be a time of introspection, I’m also planning to send out my second newsletter soon after my return — so if you’d be interested in connecting more personally than online, be sure you’ve signed up for the newsletter (if you haven’t already). The form is below.

With that, I’m off to pack for my little trip. More soon.
