At the very last minute, my family and I decided to take off on a road trip to New Orleans for a long weekend during our daughter Alex's spring break. Alex is a musician, and we thought that spending time in a musical town steeped in rich African-American history would be both fun and culturally educational and enriching for her -- for all of us, really.
