everything is fine: the erma bombeck writers' workshop
I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that I was the lunchtime keynote for the Erma Bombeck Writers' Workshop, a sweet little conference for humour writers at the University of Dayton in Ohio, Erma Bombeck's alma mater. It was my third time attending this amazing little conference, and every single time I go, I love it more. If you're a writer (especially, but not exclusively, a humour writer), you should check it out.
By an incredible stroke of luck, they filmed my talk, and through an incredible stroke of generosity, the kind folks at the Workshop let me have access to the video. I'm so glad I'm able to share it with you here, because the crowd was so incredibly kind, and it was so much fun to do. But also ... do you guys remember Mimi from The Drew Carey Show? Mimi was played by actor Kathy Kinney, and I was sincerely humbled that she was the person who introduced me before my talk! Her introduction was funny and really generous, and is definitely a career highlight for me (be sure to start at the very beginning so you can see her -- she's really lovely).
The entire video is about 45 minutes long. I hope you enjoy it. And thank you so so much to the Workshop for having me -- that I've gotten to work with you all these years is something that I really cherish.
