it's beginning to look a lot like ... halloween (87/100)
I’m not the type of person who decorates for any holidays other than Christmas, but desperate times call for desperate measures: in this insane year of lockdowns and shut-ins (and given that opening our house to trick-or-treaters and their families who might be carrying virus is a scary proposition indeed), I decided that we needed to figure out our way to express our neighbourly-ness and still make the start of the holidays fun for the kids in our neighbourhood.
So today, we put up jack-o-lantern string lights in our front windows, and in the coming weeks we’re going to plan candy bags that we’ll leave on a table on our front lawn for Halloween night. We’ll ooh and ahh over their costumes from our doorway. Hopefully it will still be fun for them — we have a lot of kids in our neighbourhood.
And then? Maybe we’ll do some sort of Thanksgiving-decorating-thing that will morph into Christmas lights. I don’t know what it will look like, but we’ll think of something. Making the outside pretty for people who are out getting some fresh air seems … I dunno, neighbourly.
Hard to believe we’re fast-approaching the end of the year, isn’t it?
