scenes from the weekend: date night
Last night, Marcus and I had a date night, the first one in months, actually. I took my camera along, because I knew that the places we were going were dimly lit, and I wanted to try my hand at some low-light images.
Here were my favourites. For the record, we went to Anvil (known for their insanely inventive cocktails), then to Sparrow restaurant for dinner (owned by the James Beard-nominated chef, Monica Pope, and it appears with this new restaurant she's upped her game even more), and after dinner, we headed over to Mongoose vs. Cobra (a really great space, but honestly, I just love the name).

These images obviously aren't perfect; it was a real challenge shooting in such dim lighting, but a fun challenge, nonetheless. Also, the night was sort of an early Valentine's Day celebration for Marcus and me, and it was an awesome evening -- if you're ever in Houston, I strongly recommend visiting all of these venues.
The evening also felt like a last hurrah for a while: I've officially started working on my second book! I'll share more when it feels more concrete, for sure, but in the meantime, please wish me luck that the words and images come easily.
More soon, friends.
Song: Little L by Jamiroquai. Whenever Marcus and I have date night, we invariably have Jamiroquai playing on the car stereo, so listening to this song will give you an idea of what our date nights usually feel like. That said, we're still not sure what the lyric, "You make me love you, love you, baby, with a little L" actually means.
