this was a good week

This was a good week.  Want to know why?

•  Farmers' markets, making new friends, and home with my family for a solid week.  What's not to love?

•  Alex begins school next week, so summer's officially winding to a close.  Perhaps Marcus and I will make this amazing cocktail this weekend to toast three wonderful months.

•  The Pavement Bookworm of South Africa:  a young, homeless man gets himself off the street by selling books and providing book reviews -- and eventually starts a reading foundation for kids.  Be sure to watch the video at the bottom of that link.  Great story.

•  Photographer Tony Gleaton -- "El Gigante" -- passed away last Friday, leaving his beautiful work behind.  You can see some of it (and read a lovely tribute by a friend) here.

•  I'm pretty sure this kid is Bruce Lee's biggest fan.

•  I'm loving the Instagram feed of one of the only remaining traditional globemakers in the world.  It warms the cockles of my wanderlust-filled heart.

•  I love Erin's reminders to herself.  Especially #8.  I'm going to start doing #8.

•  And finally, the soundtrack for today.  Recently, old Sting songs have been crossing my path a lot:  first, while I was dining alone at a restaurant about a week ago, The Shape of My Heart was playing on the sound system; then a few days later, this truly lovely video of Stevie Wonder performing Sting's song, Fragile, came across my Facebook feed.  In light of the week's (year's?) more somber news, it seemed particularly fitting to share the latter with you today.  With heartfelt prayers and thoughts for the families and friends of Alison Parker and Adam Ward, click here or on the image below to watch.
